You turn on the television with stunning regularity to watch your favorite fashion shows. They are the ones about giving someone a makeover. There are the shows about modeling and choosing a great model for the future. There are shows where a panel of "experts" sit around and talk about the stylish points of your favorite celebrities. However, there are a growing number of shows out there everyday and you wonder how it could be. You wonder how they can afford to make these television shows about fashion. The truth is that they are often so cheap to make that they can make them with no problem at all.
The way a television show works is not unlike a math equation. A company decides to make a show and they must pay actors and actresses and all the crew that goes into putting it together. This adds up to one amount. Then, after that amount is in th books they must then come up wit enough advertising to cover the amount they spent to make the television show. If a show costs 1 million dollar per episode then it would be prudent to have 2 million in revenue from advertising coming in. There are other money making streams that can come in to see if the show is profitable, but that is the bears bones of it.
For fashion shows they are incredibly cheap to make. Often you are not paying a-list actors to be a part of it. Even if you are you are not paying a series of them. You are usually dealing with a limited production team and much of the wardrobe is donated by those hoping for product placement on the show. This makes it easy to get the advertising to meet the minimal production costs. When it comes down to it, as long as the equation will work in favor of these fashion shows they will keep putting them on the air.
