These days fashion is everywhere. It’s on the television, it’s in print, and it’s on the silver screen. But there is another place that fashion is front and center on and that’s in music. Now, music and fashion have been associated for years. Since the world went crazy and got haircuts like the Beatles, to the way the world has embraced the haircut of Justin Beiber, fashion and music go hand in hand.
A lot of that has had to do with the way that society has painted rock stars for as long as they have been around. It’s the idea of the forbidden fruit. Many rock starts come out as figures that are on the fringe of culture. They have created their own niche as members of that fringe world, and this attracts the teen population. Elvis was a global sensation when censors determined his dancing was just too sexual to be shown on national television. From there he became an icon and his trademark style went into production.
The idea has always been to market to teens. Teens are those that are influenced the most by the counterculture. In the punk movement of the 1970′s it wasn’t the adults that were attracted to the brash and arrogant, defiant attitude. As a matter of fact they had decided to adopt the punk rock look that became a hot fashion through the 70′s and is still seen now to some degree.
Rock stars are as much a part of fashion as celebrities are. Personalities like Madonna and Briney Spears will be remembered just as much for the style they brought to the music scene as they will for the music they have contributed. As music tends to evolve so does the style of fashion. Every hot new group or artist will change, to some degree, the style that people are using in today’s world, especially the teen market.
